Archivist

Welcome to the community of Abbotsleigh. Abbotsleigh is a pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 Anglican day and Boarding school for girls. The Role 

The successful candidate will be a member of Abbotsleigh’s Development and Community Relations team. This team is responsible for parent community relations, Old Girl community relations, fundraising, publications, communications, marketing and archives. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Development and Community Relations and will work collaboratively with all team members and other key members of staff. The services and resources provided by the Archivist are used to benefit the whole school and are expected to provide archival assistance in the classroom when requested by subject departments.

The Duties

The Archivist is responsible for the management and general development of the Archives. They are required to:

  • acquire and be able to demonstrate a comprehensive corporate and administrative knowledge of the School’s history, staff, students, buildings and development
  • develop and implement plans and policies on all aspects of archival management; set objectives, review goals and list priorities
  • manage and maintain all aspects of the archival collection, including intellectual control, preservation and storage
  • identify information technology issues, including electronic and digital records
  • be responsible for the security and maintenance of the Archives
  • Design and participate in regular Transition to year 12 educational programs to promote the history and heritage of the School.
  • Ongoing, and in the lead-up to the School’s milestones, take responsibility as the School’s curator for community exhibitions, galleries and multimedia displays.

About our Team

Hours

This is a part-time (3 days 0.6 FTE) ongoing position. The days and hours of work for this role will be designed around the specific requirements of the School. From time to time, work outside of usual business hours or on weekends may be required. Core Hours 8 am - 4pm
