Child Care Worker

Abbotsleigh ELC is a purpose-built Reggio Emilia-inspired Early Learning Centre situated on the Junior School campus. Drawing from a broad and holistic base, the ELC provides an educational program informed by research and development into early education globally. The ELC caters for children 0 - 5 years of age from 7.30am to 6.30pm each weekday for 49 weeks per year.

We require a full-time (12-month contract) Certificate III qualified engaging and creative Child Care Worker with excellent communication skills and a warm, professional and collaborative manner to further enhance our supportive and professional ELC team of educators.

The working hours are from as early as 7.15 am to as late as 6.45pm,

Qualifications

  • Certificate III in Early Childhood Education (Children’s Services) or equivalent
  • Current First Aid certificate (HLTAID004)
  • Working with Children Check clearance

Specific Requirements

Children

  • Relate and respond in a supportive and positive manner to young children
  • Create and maintain a safe, supportive, stimulating and educational environment for children
  • Support teachers in planning, implementing and evaluating learning programs for children
  • Support teachers in maintaining ongoing records of each child’s learning and development and daily information
  • Ensure that the children are always safe and actively supervised        
  • Be aware of and cater for children’s additional needs and requirements including diet and allergies
  • Maintain centre resources and equipment
  • Manage excursions and incursions with children which promote awareness of the Abbotsleigh community
  • Ensure a high standard of hygiene in compliance with centre procedures and policies
  • Administer first aid or medication in compliance with centre procedures and policies

Staff

  • Contribute effectively to a team environment
  • Exercise diplomacy and confidentiality
  • Use initiative and discretion
  • Remain calm in stressful situations
  • Act as a proactive team player with a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure that the program is continually improving
  • Assume an equal share of housekeeping duties
  • Ensure that equipment and resources are respected and maintained to an optimal level of safety

Families

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with families
  • Encourage families to participate in decision-making and experiences at the centre
  • Create a safe, supportive and informative environment for families
  • Act as a resource person for families
  • Attend parent meetings as required

Administration

  • Ensure completion of all necessary forms on a daily basis, including sign-on and off-sheets
  • Keep abreast of staff communication notices
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment while complying with the centre’s safety policies and procedures and report any / all workplace accidents, incidents and hazards according to the Centre’s policies and procedures.
