Director of Sport

The Role 

The Director of Sport is an important leadership position for a highly qualified, energetic, dynamic and organised professional. They will provide strategic direction and have the overall responsibility for the leadership, development and management of the Senior School sports programs, encouraging enjoyment and high levels of competition and participation of all students in the programs offered at Abbotsleigh.

The Director of Sport will oversee the organisation and administration of all sports within the Senior School including IGSA competitions, representative pathways and other sports competitions. Fostering and maintaining the School’s relationship with IGSA and other bodies for the benefit of Abbotsleigh is also central. As such, with the assistance of the Head of Sport (Senior School) and Sport Coordinators, the Director of Sport is expected to efficiently lead and manage professional and well-organised sports programs that are accessible to all students.

  • Exceptional leadership skills, displaying integrity, self-awareness, gratitude, learning agility, influence, and empathy.
    • Capacity to inspire and lead staff and work with adolescents and young women.
    • Passion for excellence in sport and experience in developing a structured and competitive sport and outdoor program.
    • Ability to be agile, flexible, and creative in day-to-day activities and organisation.
      • Excellent interpersonal written and oral communication skills, with an ability to engage, motivate and communicate with all stakeholders including students, parents, and staff.
      • A well-developed understanding of adolescent girls and skills in fostering positive relationships and student management.
      • Exceptional decision-making and problem-solving skills and the ability to mediate and resolve issues.
      • Highly developed organisational and management skills, including the ability to budget, produce reports, and work to deadlines as well as the ability to plan for short-term and longer-term strategic outcomes.

      Education and Experience:

      • Extensive experience in a school setting.
      • Teaching qualifications (desirable) and/or appropriate qualifications in Sport/Outdoor Education/Management or similar.
      • Extensive understanding of risk management as it relates to co-curricular activities.
      • NESA Accreditation (where relevant).
      • NSW Working with Children Check.
