Start Term 1 2026 | Permanent Full-time | Reports to Head of History

Abbotsleigh has a wonderful opportunity for an engaging and highly motivated Senior History Teacher to join our dynamic Humanities department from Term 1, 2026. The successful candidate will be an educator who is passionate about teaching History across a range of year levels, including Stage 6 Modern History and Extension History, and who is committed to inspiring, engaging, and valuing every girl.

About the Role
The successful applicant will demonstrate knowledge, competence, and confidence in:

  • Teaching Stage 6 Modern History and supervising Extension History major works
  • Designing inclusive, intellectually stimulating lessons that foster critical thinking, debate, and historical empathy, with a focus on how girls learn best
  • Contributing to curriculum development and departmental planning
  • Supporting students in developing independent research and scholarly writing skills
  • Engaging in pastoral care and supporting student wellbeing
  • Participating in whole-school initiatives and co-curricular programs.


Qualifications

  • Relevant teaching qualifications and NESA accreditation
  • Demonstrated experience teaching Stage 6 Modern History and Extension History
  • Strong understanding of historiography, inquiry-based learning, and assessment design
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • A collaborative, reflective approach to teaching and learning
