Start Term 1 2026 | Temporary Full-time (maternity leave) | Reports to Head of English

Abbotsleigh is seeking a committed and enthusiastic English Teacher to join our vibrant English department on a 12-month contract beginning Term 1, 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a collaborative team that values creativity, academic rigour, and a love of literature.

We are looking for an educator who enjoys working with motivated students, brings energy to the classroom, and is keen to make a meaningful impact through engaging and purposeful teaching. The successful candidate will teach English across a range of year levels and contribute to the development of a dynamic learning environment.

About the Role
The successful applicant will demonstrate knowledge, competence, and confidence in:

  • Teaching English across Years 7–10, including literature, language, and writing instruction
  • Designing engaging lessons that promote textual analysis, critical thinking, and effective communication
  • Supporting students in developing reading fluency, writing proficiency, and oral presentation skills
  • Participating in pastoral care and promoting student wellbeing
  • Engaging in whole-school programs and co-curricular activities

Qualifications and Experience

  • Accreditation with NESA and relevant tertiary qualifications in the English Syllabus and current pedagogical approaches
  • Commitment to professional learning and collaborative practice
  • Contributing to curriculum development and departmental initiatives
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and support diverse learners
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
