Immediate start | Permanent part-time (3 days) | Reports to Director of Development and Community Relations


Abbotsleigh is seeking an experienced, detail‑focused, part-time (3 days) Archivist to manage, preserve and promote the School’s extensive archival, photographic and museum collections. This part‑time position plays a key role in stewarding the School’s history and supporting staff, students and the broader community.

About the Role

The Archivist is responsible for the appraisal, arrangement, preservation and accessibility of Abbotsleigh’s records (digital and physical) from its foundation to the present day. Working collaboratively across the School, you will ensure the Archives are professionally managed, secure, well‑organised and actively used for learning, research and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop the archival and museum collections
  • Implement archival policies, standards and preservation practices
  • Accession, process, store and dispose of records in line with professional standards
  • Maintain finding aids and provide timely reference services
  • Prepare displays and exhibitions for School events
  • Oversee and maintain the School’s student database
  • Promote the Archives through publications, displays and digital channels
  • Support classroom learning with archival resources when required
  • Work collaboratively with the Abbotsleigh community

About You|Essential Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience in archives and records management
  • Understanding of archival and conservation principles
  • Strong IT capability, including digital records
  • Experience supervising or managing staff

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Archives or Records Management
  • Professional membership of the Australian Society of Archivists (ASARP/ASAAP)
  • (Desirable) Participation in the NSW School Archives Special Interest Group

Hours

This is a part-time (3 days 0.6 FTE) ongoing position. The days and hours of work for this role will be designed around the specific requirements of the School. From time to time, work outside of usual business hours or on weekends may be required.
